SWE-UCR was invited to one of the largest girl scouts event in the area, a STEM event meant for the local council! Four thousands girl scouts went on to the California State University, San Bernardino to do a color run and other carnival style activities. SWE officers were asked to judge the science fair. The fair was split up into the different age groups of girl scouts; daisy, brownie, junior and cadets. We chose the Juniors as the winners because their project was about the erosion of land, a common problem in the inland empire. The Junior girl scout, who was in 6th grade, tested her hypothesis of what can stop erosion on a slope. This was most impressive because of the uniqueness of the idea and the great deal of research that went into it! We were also able to table at the event, give away stickers, and advertise for our large-scale outreach event Bourns Engineer Day!
