Anheuser-Busch is one of the largest brewing and distribution beer breweries in the nation. SWE members carpooled to the factory in Van Nuys to learn about what engineers do at this sort of establishment. We were pleased to find that engineers do a lot there!
We were led into an elegant lobby where we were given detailed safety instructions, ear buds, neon-colored safety vests, and a safety hat. Since Anheuser-Busch is a food establishment there was a lot of regulations we must abide too.
First we were taking through the packaging line where we learned 20,000 bottles are outputting a day. We saw bottles, cans, and keg packaging all on one floor...it was amazing! Next we were led by a chemical engineer in the brewing and aging staging. This was the most interesting because we learned they used the brewing room in the filming of the new Star Trek movie! We learned that the brewery has actually been a set for many Hollywood movies because of its location.
SWE members enjoyed each others company, met new people, as well as learned about yet another engineering practice.
